What is considered a Major Appliance vs. a Small Major Appliance?

What is a Major Appliance?
  • Major Appliances are considered to be "big box" items that would be very costly to ship via FedEx or UPS because of their weight. These appliances will be delivered via Whirlpool’s Home Delivery provider. Major Appliances include: Refrigerators, Washers, Dryers, Dishwashers, Ranges, Freezers, Hood/Vents, Microwave/Hoods, Grills, Wine Coolers, Cooktops, Compactors, Compact Refrigerators, Microwave/Oven Combos, Built-In Appliances and other products that weigh over 50 pounds.
What is a Small Major Appliance?
  • Small Major Appliances are small enough to ship via a regular freight company like FedEx or UPS and won’t be too expensive to ship. Small Major Appliances include: Disposers and Countertop Microwaves.
What are considered Small Appliances and Accessories?
  • Small Appliances or Accessories include: Major Appliance Accessories (filters, trim kits, parts, etc.), Home Care Products, Accessories and Textiles. These products may have a shipping/freight charge based on weight or order total.

Home Delivery

Home Delivery/Shipping:
  • Requesting Home Delivery will add a Home Delivery Charge to your order if you have Major Appliances delivered to your home regardless of the quantity of appliances you have purchased.
  • Installation and delivery service prices vary per item, depending on the type of installation or service being performed. Due to local regulations, installation is not available for some appliances such as Gas or Built-In Products or Dishwashers. Available options and pricing will be displayed at checkout.
  • If you have Small Major Appliances on the same order with Major Appliances, they will be automatically delivered with your Major Appliances, if they are available. There may be occasions when the Small Major Appliances are not available for delivery with the Major Appliances. In this case, standard FedEx/UPS shipping will automatically be applied to your order.

Shipping and Delivery Terms and Conditions

Home Delivery
  • Home Delivery consists of delivering a Major Appliance to the home.
  • Our Home Delivery specialist will call to confirm the delivery appointment selected during the checkout process.
  • All Major Appliance orders ship complete. Products such as Accessories and Home Care Products may ship separately via UPS/FedEx.
  • The Home delivery service can be made to most locations within the continental US.
  • No deliveries will be made to Alaska, Hawaii, or to anywhere outside of the continental US (including Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico).
  • Contact customer support for questions regarding home delivery eligibility for specific locations.
  • Please inspect your products at the time of delivery. After the products have been signed for and accepted, the products will not be exchanged due to damage.
  • If a product appears damaged at the time of delivery, please bring it to the attention of your delivery specialist. They will handle the issue. Do not accept the delivery if your product is damaged and you want to return it.
  • No returns for any reason will be accepted 30 days after delivery.
  • No returns for any reason will be accepted on installed products.
  • Please note: If you experience a problem with your product after it is installed and in use, it may be under warranty. For full details on any warranty, including all applicable terms and conditions, please consult the Use and Care Guide for your product.
  • Please call the number located in your Use and Care Manual or visit our brand websites to set up a service appointment.
Haul Away
  • The product being replaced will not be uninstalled by the delivery agent unless you have purchased a service that includes the uninstall service.
  • All contents must be removed from old unit including water and food particles before the delivery company can haul it away.
  • You must select the Haul Away Service during checkout to receive this service OR arrange for disposal of the old product. If the service is not selected at the time of order placement, the delivery agent will not haul the product away.
Delivery made via Standard Shipping through FedEx or UPS
  • Products that cannot be delivered via Home Delivery agent include: most Accessories, Textiles and Home Care Products. These products ship via UPS/FedEx for a fee. The fee is calculated based on the total dollar amount of the order.
  • Home Care Products are shipped via UPS directly to the home. Shipping can take 7-10 business days.
  • All products shipped via UPS/FedEx will be charged a fee. The fee varies by product and will be shown on your final order summary after you submit your order.
  • Shipments can be made to most locations within the continental US.
  • No shipments will be made to Alaska or to anywhere outside of the continental US (including Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico).
  • Contact customer support for questions regarding home delivery eligibility for specific locations.

Installation Program Summary

  • Installation Services are another benefit by purchasing your appliances directly from Whirlpool. This Web site provides the option to purchase installation for major appliances that do not require a gas hookup (e.g., Gas Ranges, Gas Dryers, Cooktops, etc.) or water hookup (e.g., Dishwashers, Sinks, Hot Water Dispensers, etc.) and are not a built-in unit (e.g., Cooktops, Built-In Ovens, Drop-In and Slide-In Ranges, etc.). The Installation Program will also offer customers the option to purchase a Haul Away service for most Major Appliances when their new product is delivered.
  • Installation Services are an additional cost and are only available with Home Delivery. Installation prices vary per item depending on the type of installation being performed. Installation is not available for Gas or Built-In Products or Dishwashers. Installation options available and their pricing will be displayed at checkout.
  • Accessory installations are only available if you have purchased the appliance on the same order that the accessory will be installed with. For example, if you purchase a refrigerator without an icemaker, you can purchase an icemaker and select the option to have it installed if you requested Home Delivery. If you only purchase the icemaker, installation is not available for that item.

Where to Find Installation Services in the Website

  • You can find Installation Services on the checkout page.
  • You may select one or more of the Installation Options as they apply.
  • If you don't see any Installation Services listed for a product, then installation is not available for that product.
  • You must purchase the product and the Installation Service on the same order.
  • Installation is performed at the time the product is delivered.

Selecting haul Away Service

  • Haul Away is only available for Replacement Product Purchases. You MUST purchase a product in order to have the old one hauled away. Haul Away is not an option for products in your home you are not replacing with a new item.
  • Our delivery specialists will NOT uninstall old appliances unless you are purchasing an installation service that includes the uninstall service (See “Installation Services and Descriptions” for further details).
  • Please make sure that products to be hauled away are unhooked and moved out of their space to an area from which it can be easily removed.

How to Prepare for Your Product Installation

  • Have a clear walkway to the space where your new product is to be set in place and/or installed.
  • Have the space clean and empty where your new product is to be set in place and/or installed.
  • Have your old product unhooked and removed from the space where you want your new product set in place and/or installed.
  • If you have chosen Haul Away for your old product, you need to unhook and move the old product out of its current space to make room for the new product, unless the uninstall service is included with your installation service (See “Installation Services and Descriptions” for further details).
  • Please make sure that the old product to be hauled away is moved to an area that is easy to get to and the product can be easily removed without obstacles.
